Incumbent Prime Minister Robert Golob's Freedom Movement secured a narrow plurality with 29 seats in Slovenia's March 22 parliamentary election under proportional representation, edging Janez Janša's Slovenian Democratic Party at 28 seats in the 90-seat National Assembly, prompting intense coalition negotiations among smaller kingmaker parties. Golob launched talks for a broad coalition—including a potential government of national unity—on March 27, boosting trader consensus on his continuity at 71%, reflecting incumbency advantages and proactive maneuvering despite the razor-thin margin. Janša trails at 20% amid allegations of vote irregularities, while Anže Logar of New Slovenia and others lag due to limited seats, with President Nataša Pirc Musar urging swift talks ahead of a formal investiture mandate.
