Anthropic's April 16 release of Claude Opus 4.7—their most capable model to date, excelling in coding benchmarks, agentic workflows, and vision tasks—has solidified trader consensus around Anthropic as the exclusive releaser of Claude 5, with no verified acquisition or partnership shifts. Earlier 2026 leaks of Sonnet 5 (briefly tested in February) and Mythos 5 beta (March insider access) fueled speculation of an imminent frontier large language model upgrade, but iterative 4.x naming reflects cautious scaling amid AI safety concerns like sabotage risks detailed in their February Opus 4.6 report. Competitive pressure from OpenAI's GPT-5 rumors and Google's Gemini advances heightens urgency; traders eye Q2 API previews or developer conference demos as key catalysts that could confirm timelines.

For this market to resolve to "Yes," Claude 5 must be launched and publicly accessible, including via open beta or open rolling waitlist signups. A closed beta or any form of private access will not suffice. The release must be clearly defined and publicly announced by Anthropic as being accessible to the general public.
Claude 5 refers to a product explicitly named Claude 5 (e.g. Claude 5.0 would count), or one that is recognized as a successor to Claude 4, similar to the progression from Claude 2 to Claude 3. Products labeled as Claude 4.5 or similar will not count for this market's resolution.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from Anthropic, with additional verification from a consensus of credible reporting.
