Tô Lâm's commanding 93.5% implied probability as next President of Vietnam stems from his overwhelming election by the National Assembly on October 21, 2024, securing 472 of 473 votes following Vương Đình Huệ's resignation as chairman. As Communist Party General Secretary since August—succeeding the late Nguyễn Phú Trọng amid an anti-corruption purge—Tô Lâm has consolidated power within the Politburo, positioning him as the unchallenged leader in Vietnam's one-party system where the presidency serves as a ceremonial head-of-state role signaling top authority. Traders' near-consensus reflects this institutional endorsement and lack of viable rivals, though low-probability shifts could arise from unforeseen health issues, party factional disputes, or procedural delays in formal inauguration.
