Incumbent Prime Minister Robert Golob's Freedom Movement secured a narrow plurality with 29 seats in Slovenia's March 22 parliamentary election, edging out Janez Janša's Slovenian Democratic Party at 28 seats in the 90-seat National Assembly, yielding a hung parliament and reliance on kingmaker smaller parties like Anže Logar's Democrats. Golob launched coalition talks on March 27, proposing a broad national unity government excluding SDS amid energy crises and graft concerns, boosting trader consensus at 71% for his continuation despite no outright majority. Janša's 20% reflects his near-tie and centre-right alliance potential, while Logar and Vladimir Prebilič trail with limited seats. President Nataša Pirc Musar urged swift negotiations, with no fixed timeline for the Assembly vote on the next prime minister.
