**Romuald Wadagni's commanding trader consensus stems from his position as the ruling Union Progressiste du Renouveau (UPR) candidate and President Patrice Talon's designated successor, bolstered by the coalition's total sweep of all 109 National Assembly seats in January 2026 parliamentary elections, which sidelined opposition parties amid low voter turnout and prior candidate disqualifications.** The Constitutional Court approved only Wadagni and Paul Hounkpè of the Forces Cauris pour un Bénin Émergent (FCBE) for the April 12 presidential ballot, limiting competition in a system favoring incumbency continuity. Wadagni launched his northern campaign on March 27, the official start, emphasizing security and economic platforms. While a runoff looms if no majority, traders see scant upset paths barring Hounkpè's improbable turnout surge, campaign scandals, or court reversals.
