Romuald Wadagni, Benin's Finance Minister and ruling coalition candidate backed by term-limited President Patrice Talon, holds commanding trader consensus at 97% implied probability for the April 12 presidential election, reflecting the opposition's severe fragmentation with only Paul Hounkpè of the FC BE party mounting a challenge. The March 27 campaign launch featured Wadagni's northern kickoff, where he pledged municipal police forces to combat jihadist threats along borders, alongside near-unanimous majority party endorsements—including a key defection by former President Boni Yayi's son from opposition ranks. This consolidation underscores Talon's institutional dominance; realistic challenges could arise from late-breaking scandals, health issues, or disputes over electoral integrity triggering a runoff or court intervention.
