California's SB 1047 AI safety bill is currently being debated in the state assembly. Legislators have until August 31 to pass it, and if approved, the Governor has until September 30 to sign it into law.

This market will resolve to "Yes" if SB 1047 AI safety bill becomes law by September 30, 2024, 11:59 PM PT. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No."

If the bill does not pass the state assembly by the end of their legislative session on August 31, this market will resolve to "No".

Note that if the Governor vetoes the bill, the market will stay open until September 30 to allow for any potential overriding of the veto.

If the bill doesn't pass by September 30, 2024, 11:59 PM PT this market will resolve to "No."

This market will resolve to “No” if any of the following conditions are met between September 19, 2025, 6 PM ET, and December 31, 2025, 11:59 PM ET:

Otherwise, this market will resolve to “Yes”.

If resolution-relevant information regarding the events mentioned above is not available by December 31, 2025, 11:59 PM ET, this market will remain open until January 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. If by that date there is still no clear information indicating that one of the listed events has occurred,  this market will resolve to “Yes”.

This market will resolve to "Yes" if OpenAI or an official representative of the company announces that it has created an artificial general intelligence (AGI) by December 31, 2026 ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No".

The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from OpenAI and/or its official representative, however a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.

OpenAI announces it has achieved AGI before 2027?

This market will resolve "Yes" if the bill listed is signed into law by the President of the United States by December 31, 2025, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No".

A bill will only qualify if it receives the President’s signature and becomes law through the normal legislative process. Vetoed bills, bills passed only by one chamber, or those that fail to reach the President’s desk, will not qualify.

The primary resolution source will be official information from Congress.gov or the White House; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used if ambiguity arises.

The resolution source will be based on the official certified results of the vote as published by the State of California. Subsequent litigation, administrative challenges, or failure of any post-approval triggers will not be considered.
