This market will resolve to "Yes" if the United States formally declares war on Iran through an act of Congress between market creation and the specified date, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No." To qualify, Congress must pass a formal declaration of war, consistent with its constitutional authority under Article I, Section 8. Authorizations for the use of military force (AUMFs), executive orders, presidential statements, or military actions do not qualify unless accompanied by a formal declaration of war enacted by Congress and signed into law. The resolution source will be a clear consensus of credible reporting.Despite a month of intense U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, missile sites, and military infrastructure since February 28—including recent hits on Isfahan—President Trump has not sought nor obtained a formal congressional declaration of war, as required by Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution. Lawmakers from both parties have criticized the unilateral action under the War Powers Resolution, demanding debate and authorization amid reports of potential ground operations. Iran rejected a U.S. 15-point ceasefire proposal, retaliating with threats to U.S. interests in the Gulf starting April 1, while Trump signals the conflict could wrap in weeks without a deal. Traders watch for congressional votes or escalation that might force a declaration, though historical precedent favors executive-led campaigns without one.
