Trader consensus overwhelmingly favors Romuald Wadagni at 98.7% implied probability for Benin's April 12 presidential election, driven by his selection as the ruling Union Progressiste's candidate and President Patrice Talon's designated successor after pro-government parties swept all 109 National Assembly seats in January legislative polls. The Constitutional Court barred major opposition parties like Les Démocrates for failing sponsorship thresholds, leaving only Paul Hounkpè of the Forces Cauris pour un Bénin Émergent as viable challenger. Campaign launched March 30 with Wadagni securing endorsements from ex-opposition figures amid low turnout concerns from prior votes. Realistic challenges include a late scandal, health event, or Hounkpè surge forcing a two-round runoff, though institutional control limits upside.
