"In addition, the shippers are gouging their customers that result in increased costs to American consumers. They are now charging $30,000 for a full container, a whopping increase from $6,000 per container just a few weeks ago. In just a short time, they went from 6K, to 18K, then 24K and now $30,000. It’s unheard of and they are doubling their $30,000 fee stuffing the same container from multiple shippers. They are killing the customers.”The ILA will continue to update the media as information becomes available. The ILA will not engage in one-on-one interviews today, Monday, September 30, 2024." https://ilaunion.org/ila-update-monday-september-30-2024-at-11-am/

CNBC reports the offer was, "50% over six years." https://www.cnbc.com/2024/09/30/ports-strike-truckers-rails-billions-in-cargo-shutdown.html Seems like workers have had enough of this stringing along. 50% over six years while cost of living increases 25%. Front line workers engage directly with these realities every day.

That said, seems like our comments are just noise if we aren't putting our money where our mouth is with a vote.

USMX just offered 50% wage increases, triple the current retirement contributions and language regarding automation. This baby could very well settle no.

I'd be incredibly surprised if this doesn't happen. Feel free to buy up no all you want. There's plenty of demand.

SaulGoodmanEsq

They're not going to let the ports shut down 40 days before the election. No way.

strike!!

BallzToTheWalz

The damages by this strike would be enormous. This is a game of chicken, they're not going to go through with the strike. That said, they may make the announcement without actually going through with it. Frankly, the deal offered by USMX is perfectly reasonable. They are just being hard asses and playing a high stakes negotiation game. There will be an agreement reached.
