Incumbent President Patrice Talon's endorsement of Romuald Wadagni as his successor drives the 88.5% trader consensus for the technocratic finance minister in Benin's April 2026 presidential election, signaling continuity amid economic growth and ruling Union Progressiste dominance. Wadagni's July 2024 candidacy announcement, following his role in fiscal reforms, bolsters his lead over National Assembly President Paul Hounkpè at 11%, a fellow party insider lacking similar executive backing. Recent April 2024 legislative elections delivered the ruling bloc an absolute majority, curbing opposition influence after prior constitutional changes limited challengers. Traders price in low upset risk ahead of potential party primaries, though court challenges or economic shifts could alter dynamics.
