Trader consensus overwhelmingly favors "No" at 97.7% for another country recognizing Somaliland by March 31, driven by the self-declared republic's enduring isolation in international diplomacy despite decades of stability and democratic governance. No UN member state has granted formal recognition, constrained by Somalia's claims to territorial integrity, the African Union's policy against endorsing secession without federal consent, and risks of regional instability in the Horn of Africa. Recent developments remain dormant: Ethiopia's January 2024 memorandum for sea access advanced economic ties but explicitly avoided recognition, with no subsequent breakthroughs, announcements, or credible reports of impending diplomatic shifts in the past 30 days. Scenarios that could upend this include a surprise bilateral deal amid escalating Somalia-Ethiopia tensions or major power intervention like UAE expansion of support, though such moves face steep institutional barriers.

This market will resolve to "Yes" if any other UN member state formally recognizes the Republic of Somaliland as a sovereign state by March 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No".
Only formal recognition of Somaliland will qualify. Statements/actions which acknowledge the Republic of Somaliland, or change its diplomatic status with a relevant country, but do not formally recognize the Republic of Somaliland as a sovereign state will not qualify.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the government of a recognizing country; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
