Romuald Wadagni's commanding 97.8% trader consensus as next President of Benin stems from President Patrice Talon's ruling coalition securing all 109 National Assembly seats in the January 2026 parliamentary elections, crushing opposition and enabling Wadagni—the anointed Finance Minister successor—to dominate ahead of the April 12 presidential vote. Recent campaign momentum, including his March 27 northern launch and March 23 platform unveiling vowing anti-jihadist police forces, has solidified endorsements from most parties, leaving Paul Hounkpè as a marginal challenger at 1.9%. While structural barriers like term limits bar Talon from running again, potential shifts could arise from low voter turnout, late scandals, health events, or unforeseen legal challenges to the electoral process.
