Nicolás Maduro, extradited to the US after his ouster as Venezuelan president, pleaded not guilty to four federal charges including narcoterrorism conspiracy and cocaine importation in New York federal court earlier this year. A recent hearing saw Judge Alvin Hellerstein reject Maduro's motion to dismiss the 2020 Southern District of New York indictment while questioning US sanctions that block Venezuelan government funds for his defense, potentially complicating his legal team. Traders' 74.5% consensus on "No" reflects the narcoterrorism statute's poor trial record—most of 83 charged have pleaded to lesser offenses—with upcoming proceedings facing evidentiary hurdles, jury uncertainties, and political sensitivities despite strong prosecution arguments on his alleged cartel ties.
