Romuald Wadagni, President Patrice Talon's finance minister and ruling coalition's designated successor, commands overwhelming trader consensus at 97.9% implied probability for Benin's April 12 presidential election, driven by the coalition's clean sweep of all 109 National Assembly seats in January's parliamentary vote, which sidelined opposition parties amid stringent electoral reforms. Recent campaign launch on March 27 saw Wadagni unveil his platform in the north, while sole challenger Paul Hounkpè of the fragmented Forces Cauris pour un Bénin Emergent struggles without broader endorsements. This near-unanimous parliamentary control and opposition disarray underpin the lopsided odds, though late scandals, health events, voter turnout surprises, or legal disputes could theoretically shift dynamics before polls close.
