Incumbent President Patrice Talon's endorsement of Finance Minister Romuald Wadagni as his successor has solidified trader consensus favoring Wadagni at 88.5% implied probability for Benin's April 2026 presidential election, where Talon is term-limited after two terms. Wadagni's close alignment with the ruling Union Progressiste and control over key institutions bolster his frontrunner status amid Benin's competitive multiparty system. Opposition leader Paul Hounkpè, at 10.5%, represents the primary alternative, drawing support from critics of Talon's governance amid recent voter registration reforms and electoral law changes that traders view as tilting odds toward the establishment. Upcoming candidate filings and primaries could shift dynamics.
