Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic incumbent and House minority leader, secured his party's nomination in the June 2026 primary with minimal opposition and now faces Republican Lewis Mizrahi in the November general election for New York's 8th congressional district. The Brooklyn-based seat has consistently favored Democrats by wide margins, with Jeffries previously winning over 75 percent of the vote amid strong local party infrastructure and fundraising. Forecasters rate the race Safe or Solid Democratic, aligning with trader pricing that treats a Democratic victory as the baseline outcome. Potential shifts could stem from an unforeseen personal or ethical development affecting the incumbent, unusually low turnout, or an extreme national political realignment capable of overcoming the district's structural lean.
