Finance Minister Romuald Wadagni commands 98.7% trader consensus as Benin's next president ahead of the April 12, 2026, direct election, driven by his role as term-limited President Patrice Talon's anointed successor and the ruling coalition's complete sweep of January parliamentary seats, which sidelined most opposition contenders via strict Constitutional Court eligibility rules enforced by the Autonomous National Electoral Commission. Only Paul Hounkpè of the Forces Cauris pour un Bénin Émergent remains as challenger, following the rejection of major rivals like Les Démocrates. Recent campaign launches on March 27 highlighted Wadagni's northern rallies and security pledges, amid ongoing voter apathy from low legislative turnout. While improbable, shifts could arise from scandal, health issues, fraud allegations, or turnout too low to validate results, potentially triggering a runoff or disputes.
