Washington's 4th Congressional District, rated Solid Republican by the Cook Political Report with an R+10 Partisan Voting Index, strongly favors the GOP in trader consensus for the open seat race following incumbent Dan Newhouse's December 2025 retirement announcement. A crowded Republican primary field—including state Sen. Matt Boehnke, Yakima County Commissioner Amanda McKinney, and past challenger Jerrod Sessler—contrasts with a thinner Democratic lineup led by John Duresky, reinforcing the district's historical GOP dominance seen in blowout general election margins. The state's top-two primary on August 4, 2026, heightens risks of an all-Republican general election matchup, with no recent polling to suggest Democratic competitiveness amid stable national midterm dynamics.
