President Patrice Talon's announcement that he will not seek a third term in Benin's 2026 presidential election has solidified Romuald Wadagni, his economy and finance minister, as the frontrunner with 88% trader consensus on Polymarket. Wadagni benefits from strong ruling party backing, incumbency advantages, and recent polls showing him leading comfortably amid opposition fragmentation. Paul Hounkpè, a key opposition figure and former National Assembly president, holds 10.5% implied probability, reflecting challenges from past boycotts and limited unified support. Recent legislative changes easing candidacy rules and Wadagni's high-profile economic reforms have further boosted sentiment toward continuity under his leadership, though election dynamics remain fluid ahead of candidate filings.
