Recent private polling from late March positions Social Democrats councillor Daniel Ennis as the clear frontrunner in the Dublin Central by-election, with 37% support versus 17% each for Sinn Féin's Janice Boylan and independent Gerry Hutch, driving his 75.5% trader consensus on Polymarket. Ennis, selected in December 2025, has built momentum through focus on housing reform and poverty amid Sinn Féin's national slump from 36% in GE20, making this a high-stakes test in Mary Lou McDonald's home constituency. Major parties finalized nominations last week—Fine Gael's Ray McAdam, Fianna Fáil's John Stephens—while Hutch's controversial profile splits anti-establishment votes, cementing Ennis's lead ahead of the imminent vote to fill Paschal Donohoe's vacancy in the four-seat Dáil constituency.
