Michigan's 7th congressional district stands as a competitive toss-up for the 2026 House elections, where Republican incumbent Tom Barrett seeks re-election after narrowly flipping the seat in 2024. Traders have assigned Democratic candidates an 80.5% implied probability, driven by the district's even Cook Partisan Voting Index and its status as a top Democratic target in the midterm cycle. Recent developments include the filing of multiple Democratic primary contenders, notably former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink, who has emphasized domestic priorities like abortion access alongside her national security background and has built substantial cash reserves ahead of the August 4 primary. Republican efforts center on Barrett's incumbency and military service record, yet the market consensus highlights the structural challenges of defending an even district in a national environment favoring opposition gains.
