Trader consensus on Polymarket strongly favors Finance Minister Romuald Wadagni as Benin's next president with 88.5% implied probability, driven by incumbent President Patrice Talon's clear endorsement and Wadagni's pivotal role in sustaining economic growth amid infrastructure reforms. Recent developments, including Wadagni's official declaration as the ruling Union Progressiste Union's candidate in late 2024 and polls from Afrobarometer showing him at 75-85% support, have solidified his lead by sidelining fragmented opposition under 2021 electoral changes that raised candidacy hurdles. Paul Hounkpè, a former interior minister and secondary ruling party figure, holds 10.5% as traders price in his name recognition but limited momentum ahead of the April 2026 vote, where Talon's coalition dominance remains key.
