Romuald Wadagni's appointment as Benin's Prime Minister by President Patrice Talon on October 8, 2024, has solidified his position as the frontrunner for the April 2026 presidential election, driving trader consensus to an 88.5% implied probability on Polymarket. With Talon constitutionally barred from a third term, Wadagni—previously finance minister and a key economic architect—emerges as the incumbent's favored successor within the dominant Union Progressiste party, amid tight control over opposition participation via prior electoral reforms. Paul Hounkpè trails at 11%, buoyed by his own ministerial background and assembly role but lacking Talon's explicit backing. Traders weigh Benin's stable macroeconomic trajectory under Talon against potential challenges from sidelined rivals, with no major polling yet available.
