Ousted Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, arrested by U.S. forces in January 2026 and held in a high-security Brooklyn federal prison, faces federal charges of narcoterrorism, drug trafficking conspiracy, and arms violations that could yield life imprisonment or decades behind bars. Trader sentiment remains tightly split, with no prison time at 33.5% edging 60+ years at 29.5%, driven by pre-trial disputes including a March 26 court ruling upholding the indictment amid battles over Venezuelan funding for his defense. Prosecutors cite extensive evidence of a narco-corruption network, but Maduro's not-guilty plea and procedural challenges fuel acquittal or plea bargain hopes; a full trial may extend over two years, with outcomes hinging on witness testimony, evidence admissibility, and potential sentencing guidelines.
