Mercedes' W17 power unit dominance has propelled George Russell and Kimi Antonelli to the top of trader consensus for the 2026 F1 Drivers' Championship, with Russell leading at 72 points after his Australia Grand Prix victory and Antonelli close behind at 63 following his emotional first win in China. The duo's 1-2 finishes in the season-opening races, bolstered by superior energy management and qualifying pace—highlighted by Antonelli's commanding Japanese GP pole—have widened the gap over Ferrari's Charles Leclerc (49 points) and others, as Red Bull struggles with reliability. This early Mercedes lockout of front-row starts and podiums underscores their chassis and aero advantages, fueling implied probabilities that reflect the teammates' head-to-head battle amid rivals' development lag.
