Romuald Wadagni, Finance Minister and designated successor to term-limited President Patrice Talon, commands 98.6% trader consensus ahead of Benin's April 12 presidential election, driven by the ruling coalition's total control of the 109-seat National Assembly following its January clean sweep and the electoral commission's barring of major opposition parties, leaving only Paul Hounkpè as challenger. Recent campaign launches, including Wadagni's northern kickoff on March 27 and his "society plan" rollout, underscore unified backing from most parliamentary groups amid historically low voter turnout. While structural dominance prevails, late-breaking scandals, constitutional court rulings, candidate health issues, or fraud disputes could theoretically disrupt this path to victory.
