Recent moderation in Mexico’s headline inflation—to 3.12% year-over-year in July 2026, the lowest since mid-2020—has tightened the contest between the 3.50–3.99% and 4.00–4.49% annual outcomes for the full year. Cooling non-core prices, particularly food and energy, have driven the decline, while core inflation remains near 3.95% amid persistent services pressures. Banco de México’s decision to hold the policy rate at 6.50% reflects upside risks from trade policy uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, and potential peso weakness, tempering expectations for further rapid disinflation. August data due September 9 and private-sector forecasts clustering near 4.0% for year-end keep the two leading bins closely matched, with traders weighing whether the recent downtrend will extend or reverse in the final months.
