Preliminary FlightAware data logging approximately 5,400 U.S. flights delayed 15+ minutes on March 29—within, into, or out of the country—has locked trader consensus at nearly 100% for under 6,000 delays, reflecting smooth National Airspace System operations without major weather disruptions or cascading ground delays that plagued prior days like March 27's 3,000+ delays. FAA-mandated schedule reductions at high-traffic hubs including Chicago O'Hare and San Francisco International, effective from March 29 through summer, curbed overscheduling and congestion amid ongoing partial DHS shutdown pressures on TSA screening. While final FAA OPSNET figures could theoretically revise totals upward via late-filed reports, historical patterns show preliminary tallies as highly reliable, leaving scant room for the 6,500-7,000 range.
