Melanie Stansbury’s renomination as the Democratic incumbent in New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District underpins the 93.5% trader consensus favoring the Democratic Party in the November 2026 general election. The seat carries a D+7 partisan voting index and has delivered consistent Democratic margins, including Stansbury’s 56.4% victory in 2024. Republican nominee Ndidiamaka Okpareke faces structural headwinds in a district where Democratic registration and turnout advantages have held firm. Forecasters rate the race Solid or Safe Democratic. A national Republican surge, unexpected scandal, or sharp drop in Democratic participation could narrow the gap, though no such developments have emerged since the June primaries concluded.
