Trader consensus reflects overwhelming skepticism toward diplomatic recognition of Somaliland's independence claim, with "No" odds at 97.7%, driven by entrenched geopolitical barriers in the Horn of Africa. No country has formally recognized Somaliland since its 1991 declaration, and the African Union's longstanding support for Somalia's territorial integrity deters unilateral moves. Ethiopia's January 2024 memorandum of understanding for Berbera port access sparked brief speculation, but Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has since reaffirmed no recognition plans amid Somalia's diplomatic rupture and regional tensions. Recent developments show no breakthroughs, with Western powers like the US and UK engaging economically without endorsing sovereignty. Realistic shifts could stem from an abrupt Ethiopian pivot or UAE escalation, though such scenarios remain improbable before March 31 absent major catalysts.
