Van claimed the vacant belt via 26-second injury TKO over Alexandre Pantoja in December 2025 during a six-fight win streak, while Taira secured a second-round KO/TKO over Brandon Moreno that night. No injuries reported ahead of Friday's weigh-ins, with trader consensus reflecting a stylistic clash where Van's striking edge meets Taira's ground threat in a closely contested bout.
