Shimizu holds a 2-0 head-to-head edge from 2022 ITF hard-court encounters, bolstered by home-crowd support in Japan, though both arrived off early exits at last week's Yokkaichi Challenger—Shimizu reaching the round of 16 before falling to Harry Wendelken, while Ilagan lost in the first round to James McCabe. No reported injuries or withdrawals; key factors include stylistic matchup on a medium-fast surface and fatigue from recent Asia swing travel.
