Rep. Mike Waltz's nomination as National Security Adviser by President-elect Trump, announced November 12, has prompted his planned resignation from Florida's 8th Congressional District after inauguration, setting up a special election called by Gov. Ron DeSantis. This R+9 stronghold, where Trump won by 32 points in 2020, favors Republicans, with state Sen. Randy Fine leading early GOP primary contenders amid a thin Democratic field lacking notable candidates. Recent confirmation hearings for Waltz reinforce the timeline, boosting trader consensus to 89.5% for a Republican winner as district fundamentals and GOP organizational strength dominate probabilities over the 8.5% Democratic share.
