Recent TSA checkpoint travel numbers show high volatility during spring break, with a peak of 2.87 million passengers on March 22 followed by midweek dips to 2.19 million on March 24 and 2.38 million on March 25, rebounding to 2.72 million on March 26—keeping trader consensus tightly split near 2.4-2.6 million (49.5%) versus under 2.4 million (49.0%) for April 1. A prolonged DHS funding lapse has triggered 40-50% TSA officer callouts, record four-hour-plus wait times, and over 450 resignations, potentially capping throughput despite record spring demand projections of 171 million passengers through April. Senate passage of a DHS funding bill on March 27 could ease staffing strains, while Easter Sunday on April 5 may spur pre-holiday travel; final March 27-28 figures and weather could tip the balance.
