Jeremy Fears Jr. holds a slim edge over Braden Smith in trader consensus for NCAA men's basketball assists per game leader, with both freshmen point guards showcasing elite playmaking early in the 2024-25 season amid small sample sizes that amplify volatility. Fears boosts his 9.8 APG average through Michigan State's first eight games with a 15-assist outburst in a recent rout of Niagara, while Smith's 8.6 APG for unbeaten Purdue reflects steady double-digit outputs, including 12 assists versus Alabama last week. No injuries mar their availability, but Themus Fulks lurks at 23% after Eastern Kentucky's 11.3 APG clip, as tougher non-conference schedules test consistency and usage rates ahead of conference play.
