Lloyd guided the team to Big 12 regular-season and tournament championships, a program-record win total, 12 victories over ranked opponents, and the program's first Final Four berth since 2001 despite a recent semifinal setback. Prior honors like Big 12 Coach of the Year reinforced his case over finalists including Dusty May and Brad Underwood. With the award confirmed, realistic challenges are negligible absent an unprecedented revocation.
