President Trump's March 31 executive order directing states to restrict mail-in ballots to verified U.S. citizens via U.S. Postal Service lists faces swift legal challenges from Democrats, ACLU, Brennan Center, and voting rights groups, who argue it unconstitutionally encroaches on states' authority over elections—a domain reserved to states and Congress under the Constitution. Multiple lawsuits filed in U.S. District Court for Massachusetts and elsewhere, including before a judge who previously blocked a similar Trump-era voting order, have fueled 95.5% trader consensus on blockage by April's end, consistent with historical precedents where such executive actions failed judicial scrutiny. While injunction hearings loom this month, unlikely shifts could arise from rapid administration withdrawal, DOJ defenses upholding narrower interpretations, or expedited appeals, though precedents favor challengers.
