The open seat created by Republican incumbent Julia Letlow’s decision to run for U.S. Senate has left Louisiana’s 5th congressional district—a rural, northeastern area with a longstanding Republican tilt—positioned for continued GOP control. Multiple Republican primary candidates, including Trump-endorsed state Sen. Blake Miguez, are competing ahead of the November 3 primary, while Democratic contenders encounter limited support in the district’s voter base. Recent polling and candidate forums reinforce this partisan edge, aligning with the market’s assessment that a Republican will secure the general election on December 12.
