NC State’s Cinderella run as an 11-seed propelled them to the Final Four after a 76-64 upset over top-seed Duke in the Elite Eight, fueling trader interest in underdog stories amid March Madness chaos. Defending champion UConn advanced dominantly, crushing Illinois 88-65 behind Tristen Newton and Donovan Clingan’s interior presence, reinforcing their status as heavy favorites. Purdue finally shed March demons by edging Tennessee 72-66, with Zach Edey dominating (28 points, 14 rebounds), while Alabama’s explosive offense overwhelmed Clemson 89-77 led by Mark Sears’ 24 points. Semifinals pit UConn vs. Alabama Saturday and Purdue vs. NC State, where size matchups, fatigue from deep runs, and coaching adjustments like Nate Oats’ zone defense could swing outcomes—no major injuries reported.
