President Trump's federal takeover of D.C.'s Metropolitan Police Department began on August 11, 2025, and is set to expire on September 10, 2025, since federal control under the Home Rule Act is limited to 30 days. A bill passed by Congress could extend such federal control.
This market will resolve to "Yes" if a bill extending federal authority over the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to the District of Columbia government passes by September 10, 2025, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No".
Any qualifying bill will count regardless of when or if its provisions go into effect.
The bill does not need to be signed into law by the President.
The primary resolution source is Congress.gov’s legislation tracker and other official information from the government of the United States; however, other credible reporting may be used.
