This market will resolve according to "Yes" if the listed type of consumer hardware product is publicly announced by OpenAI by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The announcement of a qualifying consumer hardware product within the market timeframe will suffice, regardless of whether or when the product is released. If a device fulfills multiple device categories, then all relevant categories will resolve to "Yes". The resolution source will be official information from OpenAI.OpenAI's trader consensus centers on a potential hardware device announcement in the second half of 2026, fueled by chief global affairs officer Chris Lehane's January confirmation that the company remains "on track" for a late-year reveal of its first screenless, audio-first AI gadget, possibly earbuds or a smart speaker developed with ex-Apple designer Jony Ive and manufactured by Foxconn. Recent software iterations, including GPT-5.4 mini/nano releases in mid-March and ChatGPT's enhanced product discovery features on March 24, underscore ongoing large language model advancements amid "Spud" pretraining completion signaling a Q2 model launch. Competitive pressures from Anthropic's leaked Mythos and Google's Gemini updates, plus OpenAI's workforce doubling to 8,000 by year-end, heighten focus on hardware as a diversification catalyst, though timelines could slip per historical product delays.
