St. Louis Cardinals hold a 1-0 series lead over the Pittsburgh Pirates after a dramatic 4-2 comeback victory on April 27 at PNC Park, rallying for four ninth-inning runs including back-to-back homers and a two-run double to snap a no-hit bid. Both NL Central contenders sit near .500—Cardinals 16-13, Pirates 16-14—chasing leaders Cincinnati and Chicago amid a tight division race. Pirates enjoy home-field edge (8-6 record) but face lineup questions with Oneil Cruz sidelined by illness yesterday and Jared Triolo on IL (knee); Cardinals without Lars Nootbaar (heel surgery). Wednesday's probable matchup features Cardinals RHP Andre Pallante (2-2, 4.26 ERA) versus Pirates RHP prospect like Bubba Chandler (1-2, 4.88 ERA), with Nick Gonzales riding an eight-game hit streak fueling trader focus on Pirates' young arms and Cardinals' momentum.
