Severe weather disruptions, including thunderstorms triggering FAA ground stops and extended delays averaging 256 minutes at Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD), are the primary drivers behind the 75% implied probability for over 400 US flight cancellations on April 4. FAA advisories highlight low clouds impacting Northeast hubs like New York (JFK, LGA, EWR) and Philadelphia (PHL), plus thunderstorms in Orlando (MCO), Tampa (TPA), and Detroit (DTW), snow in Salt Lake City (SLC), and winds in Las Vegas (LAS). Yesterday's FlightAware tally of 536 cancellations within, into, or out of the US sets a recent benchmark, with ongoing spring break volume and TSA staffing strains amplifying risks as the day progresses toward full resolution.
