Round 3 surges—fueled by hot putters and precise approach play amid gusty winds—propelled these contenders forward, capitalizing on the par-70 layout's birdie opportunities on par 5s while early leaders like Gary Woodland stumbled. Amateurs like Clanton and Jeffrey Kang add upset potential with fearless ball-striking, keeping the race volatile on this demanding Pete Dye design where Sunday charges are common and no clear favorite dominates.
