Haiti's Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) postponed voter and candidate registration in early April 2026 without altering the August 30 first-round general election schedule, citing a new decree, while Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé initially rejected a $250 million budget before the CEP submitted a revised version on May 1 and he pledged on May 10 to publish the electoral decree amid reported U.S. pressure. These developments, alongside approval of 282 political parties, sustain trader consensus at 62.5% against further delays despite persistent gang violence, post-transitional council political limbo since February, and logistical hurdles in the first elections since 2016. International support for the Kenya-led security mission offers potential to enable voting, though insecurity remains a key risk factor.
