Haiti's Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) postponed voter and candidate registration on April 8, 2026—originally set to begin April 1—citing a new government decree, with no revised dates announced, fueling trader consensus at 55% for further delays to the scheduled August 30 first-round presidential and legislative elections. This latest setback in the long-stalled process follows the Transitional Presidential Council's dissolution in February and approval of 282 political parties in late March, amid persistent gang violence hindering security and logistics in key areas like Port-au-Prince. While the revised electoral calendar holds for now, ongoing insecurity and procedural hurdles underscore the closely contested odds, with potential for escalation or international intervention to influence the timeline.
