Widespread thunderstorms and low clouds across major Northeast hubs like New York (JFK, LGA, EWR), Philadelphia (PHL), and Washington-area airports (DCA, IAD), plus impacts in Atlanta (ATL), Denver (DEN), and Texas (IAH), drove extensive arrival and ground delays on April 1, per FAA reports and NAS status updates showing averages up to 148 minutes at LGA. Compounding this, FAA safety measures slashed San Francisco (SFO) arrival rates to 36 per hour amid runway repaving, affecting 25% of flights. FlightAware's preliminary tally of 5,976 delays within, into, or out of the US—checked at noon ET April 2 for resolution—locks in trader consensus at 98% for over 5,000, with only a rare data revision posing a realistic challenge.
