The Iranian rial's black-market exchange rate has surged to around 1.595 million per USD as of March 31, 2026, reflecting accelerated devaluation driven by hyperinflation exceeding 50%, stringent U.S. sanctions on oil exports, and domestic economic unrest. Israeli airstrikes on key Iranian energy infrastructure, including South Pars gas facilities on March 18, have disrupted production and heightened fears of broader escalation in the Iran-Israel conflict, further eroding trader confidence in rial stabilization. Recent U.S.-Iran diplomatic signals, including Tehran's demands for sanctions relief amid ongoing talks, provide limited counterbalance, but persistent pressures from restricted trade and proxy tensions sustain depreciation momentum through April 30 resolution.
