Kevin Kiley, the former Republican incumbent who switched to independent status after Proposition 50 redrew district lines, leads early vote counts in the June 2 open primary for California's 6th Congressional District, which includes Sacramento and surrounding suburbs. Multiple Democratic candidates, including former state Sen. Richard Pan and Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho, are splitting support in a seat rated as solidly Democratic for the general election. A Republican challenger, Michael Stansfield, remains competitive in partial returns, with Kiley, Pan, and Stansfield separated by narrow margins among counted ballots. The top two finishers advance under California's nonpartisan primary rules, and final certification will determine which contenders move forward amid ongoing vote tabulation in key counties.
