Trader consensus reflects a 74.5% implied probability that Claudio Tapia will remain AFA president past July 19, 2026, despite escalating legal pressures including a April 17 federal prosecutor's request for his detention and indictment alongside VP Pablo Toviggino on aggravated illicit association and money laundering charges. Earlier March charges against Tapia and AFA for tax fraud led to asset embargoes and court testimony, yet judges recently authorized his international travel amid 2026 World Cup preparations co-hosted by Argentina. Tapia's nine-year tenure, backed by key clubs like Boca Juniors, faces fan boos and River Plate's withdrawal from AFA's directive commission over corruption concerns, but slow judicial processes and no immediate ouster mechanism sustain his position through league governance and national team momentum.
